Abstract

Pain is always a feeling, it is not a generality, a neurological species, but a suffering, that is, an individual fact of meaning. Even when it is «suffered» and causes inner torment, it does not escape the individual, who continues, without always knowing it, to be the artisan of what s/he feels. Where pain is chosen or accepted, suffering is minimal; it has a meaning or even a value in this specific context where it accompanies a valued activity. It is not targeted for itself, but is part of the experience
