Abstract
«The Red» is an article prepared by Garfinkel for publication in 1947. It comprises one part of his theory of social objects - the Red being a case of what he referred to as an Ideal Social Object. The article will be included in the new second edition of Studies in Ethnomethodology to be published by Paradigm Publishers in 2012.
