Abstract

This article proposes an analysis of discourse framing and addressing LGBTIQ+ issues within the social media communication of two examples of populist radical right-wing parties: Lega (the League) and Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy). The analysis focuses on the emergence of «antilgbtqism» within PRRPs’ communication on Twitter/X to assess whether it appeared occasionally or in a relatively persistent manner. Through this intra-comparative case study analysis, we aim to assess the saliency of (opposition to) LGBTIQ+ issues for PRRPs, and to build a model of investigation of (anti) LGBTIQ+ issues, expanding our knowledge of PRRPs and beyond this specific party family
