Abstract
Learning processes necessary for the good governance of commons are valued as central for any working democracy. In an increasing knowledge-driven economy and society the fate of democracy is linked to the capabilities of citizens. Civic skills and competences are best acquired through social practices targeted on avoiding tragedies of commons. Republicanism means today civic responsibility for local and global commons. This paper explores the many linkages between commons, knowledge, and democracy.
