Abstract

Law and power are closely connected, related to each other on three different planes: legitimacy, legality, and effectiveness. With regard to understanding how a legal order functions, it is important to include the element of recognition by officials and citizens. This element allows one to distinguish between a legitimate order and a system based on violence. Moreover, it brings to the foreground the responsibility of each individual in the concrete life of a society.
