Abstract
The analysis of the ancient sources, particularly the Greek ones, of the modern doctrines of natural law requires a new investigation. A focal point of the inquiry should be the concept of status naturae: its ancient sources, Hobbes resumption of the problem, the confrontation with it up to Rousseau and Kant.
