Abstract

Consumer law is not only a way to protect the consumer against the unilateral power of the producer, against the abuse of power of the strong against the weak party. Consumer law and market regulation are not contradictory, and both interact. Consumer protection can be beneficial to markets, and as such participate to market regulation. The analysis of the impact of consumer rules on (i) goods and services market, and (ii) financial markets, should permit to demonstrate that consumer law participates to efficient market regulation.
