Abstract

The paper focuses on smart contracts. In the first part, the author analyses blockchain, smart contract and Distributed Ledger Technology. In the second part, the author questions if smart contracts, or some of them, can be considered contracts in a legal terms. In the third part, the paper analyzes some recent Italian laws and the part of general contract law applicable to some kinds of smart contracts. Finally, the author investigates the need for new laws.
