Abstract

The article aims to pinpoint the specificity of the theoretical framework of Hugo Grotius’ political reflection by focusing on his understanding of the political community and the political power that governs it, in different moments of his work such as his early republican writings, De imperio, and De iure belli ac pacis. It will be argued that the Dutch jurist addressed modern challenges through traditional categories that nevertheless allowed him to imagine flexible solutions that could be adapted to different contexts.
