Abstract
The contribution focuses on the most significant voices of historiography on Guicciardini, from the period following the Second World War to the present. It emerges that the sixteenth-century thinker has increasingly acquired the role of master of the twentieth century, for his propensity for a nominalist epistemology suited to a shocking crisis, which, as had happened in the sixteenth century, no longer tolerates great projects and great illusions. This happy historiographical revision culminates in Matteo Palumbo’s beautiful commentary on the Ricordi, which is the culmination of his forty-year exegetical activity dedicated to Guicciardini.
