Abstract

In this work we present some applied aspects of the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) index – the share of manufacturing time that is truly productive – for the Bank of Italy’s banknote production plant. The availability of a monthly series of the index from 2014 to 2020 allows the examination, through quantitative techniques, of the impact on the OEE of “firm eventsµ which may arise in other industrial sites as well: a reorganization of working shifts, negotiation with trade unions, management of the challenges brought about more recently by the COVID-19.
