Diversity management practices are being studied in many industrialized countries in view of social and economic developments that require human resource management to be increasingly inclusive in order to include, among others, those aspects related to the health status of the individual. The spread of these practices constitutes a key element for the new opportunities and challenges provided by the present and future scenarios of the labor market and society. This paper investigates the evolution of disability management and the figure of the disabilty manager, tracing its required and desirable competencies, with the aim of contributing to the debate on the effective management of people with disabilities in organizational environments.
