Abstract
In the cloister’s atrium of the Monastery of St. Susanna in Rome (Via XX Settembre 14), there is an unpublished, upright marble slab bearing an inscription placed by a mother for the sons she had from two separate relationships. These are a child who lived 6 years and 2 months, and an adult who died just over 25 years old. The most interesting, and so far never attested, aspect concerns the adult male who, as gregarius, was first a firefighter, then an urban soldier and finally a praetorian.
