Abstract

This paper aims at reconsidering and discussing further a brief inscription (CIL, X, 4753) located in Suessa Aurunca, Campania. We take an interest in an individual, C. Lieurius Tranquillius Tocius Soimus, who nonetheless remains largely unknown. Only two titles, yet prestigious, are given by this Italian inscription: except that, the subject’s career is obscure. It is also the case of his identity, since polyonymy is no help to link him to some prominent family. The mention of the consular rank, as well as the patrician status or dignity, must be discussed. It also encourages a possible change regarding the traditional datation of this dedicatory inscription made by the splendidissimus ordo of Suessa.
