Abstract
The essay studies a new metrical inscription from Vara¸dinske Toplice (ancient Aquae Iasae, in modern Croatia), composed after the restauration of the famous thermal station promoted by the emperor Constantine. In the commentary ad versum some alternative readings of senseless expressions and additions in the fragmentary side of the plate are provided. These are justified through the comparison of many loci similes in Latin poetry dedicated to the celebration of thermal waters (above all Statius and some epigrams of Anthologia Latina, but also Lucretius, Virgil, and Lucan).
