Abstract
This contribution delves into the genesis and basic lines of interpretation of the book dedicated by Croce to Vico’s work in 1911. In doing so, reference is made to the propulsive role that Vico’s thought had in Croce’s elaboration of a mature historiographical theory, as well as to the contemporary reception of Croce’s essay, with particular reference to Giovanni Gentile’s Vico studies and to the controversy with Borgese.
