Abstract
Francesco Casini of Siena, leading doctor and professor, is an author known for medical writings. These include the unpublished ‘De natura balneorum’, preserved in MS New York Academy of Medicine, De Ricci 4, ff. 117r - 118v. In this work, dedicated to Malatesta di Pandolfo Malatesta ruler of Pesaro, and probably composed in 1397-8, Casini describes the curative properties of various ‘balnea’ in central Italy. A critical edition is given, demonstrating the presence of the ‘De Balneis’ of Gentile da Foligno as the model.
