Abstract
The essay contains various interpretative proposals regarding the text, sources, and early visual representations of Dante’s famous encounter with the group of classical poets in Limbo. The integrated approach of textual criticism, linguistics, intertextuality, history of image, and critical use of digital resources has led to a new hypothesis about the “Homer functionµ in the ‘Commedia’, and the iconographic valorization of Dante as an author and poet.
