Abstract

In Jb 10,20, a double qere / ketiv in Hebrew, a singular freedom of the LXX in the first colon and a double translation of a Hebrew word in the Vulgate lead to divergent readings of the Hebrew text. The article presents the three most common reading hypotheses and proposes two others, one too ignored, the other new. In this last reading, unlike the others, Job’s question is not about his finitude or the brevity of his life but about the imminence of his death.
