Abstract
In Phil 1,10, at the end of the letter’s "exordium", Paul prays so that Philippians can discern what is most important in view of the «Christ’s day». In such a way, the exigence of a process of discernment is introduced. In the letter, this discernment will be developed by the Apostle, first regarding himself in 1,12-26 and then regarding the addressees in 1,27-30; 2,1-18; 3,1–4,1. Nevertheless, in both cases, we have the same spheres: situation, ecclesial context, personal relationship with Christ. This parallelism in discerning is easy to comprehend because of the call for the imitation of the Apostle, that is clearly expressed in 3,17, but also alluded in 1,29 and 4,9.
