Abstract
The author analyses the important role played by Claudio Pavone in the life of the Italian Society for the Study of Contemporary History (SISSCO), since its foundation in 1990, with particular emphasis on the four-year period of his presidency (1995-1999) and the initiatives carried out in that phase, with particular reference to the 1996 conference on 20th century periodizations.
