Abstract
Values in legal argumentation are plural and conflicting. As an example, we analyze an Italian extortion case in which economic values point in one direction and the goods protected by criminal law require the opposite. How to solve such conflicts is a difficult question, but we suggest that a proper emphasis should be placed on argumentation on the values at stake.
