Abstract
The Author discusses the development of Sandro Baratta's critical thoughts, in the field of the Sociology of law and in the field of Penal science as well. Baratta was active in the foundation of a "critical criminology" in Italy and, at the same time, in realising an "integrated penal science". His theoretical approaches have been followed not only in Italy, but also in other European Countries and in Latin America.
