Abstract
The article is focused on the rhetorical ability of Massimo Pavarini and refers to his strategies of communication when involved in public meetings. With reference to such colloquial practices, Pavarini's contributions can be understood as examples of effective and incisive public sociology, public penology and public criminology. Working on the moral and ideological dichotomies typical of the narratives on crime and punishment, Pavarini has been a master in adapting and translating his theoretical conclusions and academic knowledge for different audiences (political activists, prison officers, students) on crucial themes as prison conditions and prisoners' rights, penal abolitionism and minimalism, feminicide and urban security.
