Abstract
Workers' involvement in the definition of production processes and business strategies is one of the pillars of modern human resources management. Empirical studies have broadly confirmed its positive effects on innovation and productivity. Nevertheless, Italy is one of the European countries where workers' participation in management is more limited. Starting from these premises, this article focuses on the evolution of legislative and contractual provisions in this field, provides empirical evidence on the spread of workers' involvement practices, and formulates some policy recommendations on how to reduce the limits to their spreading.
