Abstract
In March 2023 the Italian parliament passed the long-awaited framework legislation of the reform of long-term care policies for elderly people. The reform pursues three aims: i) the development of long-term care as unitary sector of the Italian welfare; ii) a redesign of the services involved in order to better meet older people and families’ needs; iii) a growth of services’ provision. The framework law is supported by most scholars and practitioners. The next step, nevertheless, is the most critical: to translate an ambitious general design into practice. Will be the Italian government able to implement such an ambitious reform and to find the necessary funds?
