Abstract
The essay discusses the key innovations in the recent proposal by the Italian Government on how to reform legislation concerning the Third Sector. Considering the substantial increase in the size of the non profit sector (as the Italian National Statistical Institute recently documented), its growing importance, and the limits of the current legislation, new regulations are badly needed. Although the recent reform proposal is timely and quite interesting, it contains a number of shortcomings that might hinder its capacity to support the Third Sector effectively.
