Abstract
The economic crisis in Italy has emphasised that the most vulnerable social groups suffer from a major housing disadvantage, that is rooted in the dynamics of the Italian residential market over the last thirty years. In detail, we refer to the very limited availability of (affordable) flats on the rental market, and we explore the possibility of doubling the rental sector in Italy, on the basis of programs and policies aimed at promoting an affordable housing market.
