Abstract
As a consequence of the «refugee crisis», in the summer of 2014, Italy introduced a hosting system aimed at overcoming the emergency approach that was hitherto dominant. However, several factors hampered the correct implementation of the law: first, a large number of municipalities were unwilling to host refugees; and second it takes a very long time to process international protection applications. In addition, starting in 2017 asylum-seeker policies became more and more restrictive. The note presents the current scenario of reception policy in Italy and highlights its main weaknesses and contradictions.
