Abstract
Starting from 2018-2019, when the tests were extended to the last year of high school, the INVALSI testing procedures now cover Italian primary and secondary education entirely. Hence, at present the abovementioned testing program allows to evaluate students’ achievements throughout their school careers. Evidence from the INVALSI tests highlights a complex school system with considerable variation across the country. Further, equity problems that can be observed at the end of primary school substantially increase over the following years, up to the end of secondary education.
