The bibliographic "discard" between state legislation and local practices
Abstract
Weeding public library's collections is a critical part of the collections management system. Commonly known as "discard", it requires both cultural and regulatory legitimation. The aim of this article is to illustrate how the provisions, from soft law acts to local government levels, regulate the weeding procedures, focusing on the state legislation and its frequently incorrect application at local level. Through a detailed analysis of the main provisions on the subject, an attempt has been made to propose an interpretation more in line with both the letter and the ratio to which provisions refer.
