Abstract

The legislative decree n. 63/2008 explicitly includes downtowns and historic city centers among the landscape assets that fall under the definition of the "Code of cultural heritage and landscape". The article addresses the problems of coordination between the new and the old discipline, with particular regard to the tension arising between urban planning and protection of cultural heritage. It highlights the overlapping areas and the resulting uncertainties in the concrete application.
