Digitization, digital databases and enhancement of cultural heritage
Abstract
The contribution introduces some conceptual clarifications necessary to better define the object of the study, from which it derives some practical conclusions: freedom and gratuitousness characterize the access to the essential service of essential service of making the cultural heritage available to the public and the re-use of basic (not-re-elaborated) digital data of the public administration, but not the offer of additional digital services of enhancement, which can meet the normal cost/correspondence criterion. The development of digitization and the creative and innovative use of information technology could provide the basis for the construction of a new model of a local museum capable of becoming the engine of a cultural, civil, social and economic renaissance of ancient villages and small towns.
