This paper tries to outline the features of legality education by reconstructing its special formation process in the Italian experience. It proposes its historical periodization based on the level of institutionalization and on the semantic declination of the terms. After indicating some geographical models of the experience, the paper points out some limits of the development of the discipline, which grew quickly on the strength of facts, and is still partially lacking in scientific maturity. At the end, however, the contribution proposes an encouraging assessment of the long journey, up to its enhancement in the international arena.
