Towards a Truly Civic School
Abstract
The recent law n. 92-2018 reforming civic education in Italian schools draws criticism for many reasons. Once more, an effective educational need is responded to through an expedient. Indeed, a subject of study named «educazione» has been set up which is proclaimed as transversal but is in fact bound to become a new micro-discipline thereby exacerbating the current curricular fragmentation. Teaching has to be pluri-disciplinary, as all the disciplines are called to define their specific contribution to a general school plan of citizenship education. Such a plan should valorize also the learning through experience, a crucial dimension which has been neglected by the law.
