Crisis of Democracy and Civic Skills at School
Abstract
Citizenship education can play an important role in today’s society, provided it responds to the needs posed by social pluralism and provides the tools to address the crisis of democracy. Historically, however, civic education in schools has come late in the face of these challenges. The current reform (Law 92/2019) risks not dealing with these problems if it fails to provide pupils / students with the competences (critical, intercultural, deliberative) which are fundamental to live in global society.
