Abstract

Enacted cognition assumes a unitary perspective of sensorimotor cognition, but as pointed out in the target article by Gallagher, there are several critiques. In fact shifting attention to the body and behaviour, rather than cognitive processes, can lead to a risky retreat to behaviourist positions. The theorists of the enacted cognition have taken the challenge set by the critics and discussed about mindfulness and mindlessness in performance. This contrast can be overcome by the possible third phase of the cognitive sciences and by a naturalistic approach to performativity, that will be discussed in this paper.
