Abstract
The author investigates whether Machiavelli actually considers the Tribunate of the plebs as an organism of mediation. For this purpose, he notes that in Machiavelli’s Discorsi it seems to be an interinstitutional instrument of social and political fighting, constantly opposed by the senatorial nobility. Furthermore, this essay highlights how Tribunes’ action did not threaten the structure of the Roman Republic, until the day when it disputed about the distribution of wealth gained by the Patricians during the conquest of territories.
