Abstract
Although not sufficiently investigated on this front, Vincenzo Gioberti’s thought presents some traits that will be characteristic of Italian reflection on the idea of Europe, at least until the middle of the twentieth century. The aim of these pages is to investigate the aspects and developments of the idea of Europe in Gioberti in the years between the drafting of the Primato morale e civile degli italiani and the Rinnovamento civile d’Italia, showing the relations between the concepts of ‘nation’ and ‘Europe’ and the indissoluble connection between them and the more rigorously theoretical and speculative dimension of Gioberti’s philosophy
