Abstract
The essay aims to investigate the complexity of Giordano Bruno's relationship with the Petrarchist tradition. A close reading of "Candelaio", the comedy published in Paris in 1582, "Explicatio triginta sigillorum", a mnemotechnical work published in London in 1583, and "Eroici Furori", a philosophical dialogue published in London in 1585, shows how Bruno interprets peculiar Petrarchists like Michelangelo Buonarroti and how he attempts to establish a new intertextual dialogue with Petrarch's "Canzoniere".
