Abstract

The technological convergence processes of the past twenty years have strongly modified the mediascape, and undermined the identification between technical device and communication channel. Taking this situation as a starting point, the present article presents the results of a research on the definition of medium that involved the members of the scientific boards of five international journals with high impact factors. Within the limits of the research results, the purpose is to deal with the theoretical status of the media studies, and to describe some of the characteristics that shape this field.
