Abstract
The crises of the environment and of human happiness have considerably worsened in recent decades. Cities are the engine of these two crises, being the epicenter of both unhappiness and polluting emissions. Is it possible to transform cities from the engine to the solution of both crises? I review the evidence suggesting that the urban changes needed to enhance happiness overlap the profile of a sustainable city.
