Abstract
The article critically discusses what Antonio Gramsci wrote in the Prison Notebooks on the following topics: the relationships between archival documents and history; the discriminating value of the citation of archival sources in scientific publications; the importance and functions of archival research; the proposal of an archival model for a political organization such as the Communist Party of Italy.
