Abstract

Great jurists, theorists and practitioners, «inventors» of the Massimario (collection of abstracts of judgments) and the Ruolo (system for managing cases) worked to build the Italian Court of Cassation, that means, the Cassation «system», in which the principles of law (ratio decidendi) are identified by means of an analysis of the judgments and these principles are applied by judges for their decisions. The article traces the history of these fundamental offices of the Italian Cassation.
