Abstract
The paper aims to retrace the negotiation for the transfer of the documentation concerning the territories ceded by the State of Milan to the House of Savoy in the 18th century. The essay examines the official agreements, their implementation, and the strategies adopted by the Austrian court, the Milanese élites, and the archive officers in order to delay the consignment. The interest of both parties in retaining control over the management of the documentation – intended as an instrument of power – comes therefore to light.
