Abstract

Did an elite created by fascism exist? The article deals with this issue. On the basis of the important study by Mario Missori, which has examined names, geographical origins, previous public office held, involvement in family or friendship networks on the ground, etc., it emerges that initially fascism had its own relatively homogeneous ruling group (created rather chaotically during the period of the so-called «squadrismo»), then this group was diluted by other accessions: firstly the nationalists, whose training and experience was quite different; then the long-term public servants (as well as some jurists) who regularly pursued their respective careers in the new regime. Many members of this ruling group embraced an idea of the state which was strongly in continuity with the previous one
