Abstract
The Italian 1848, with its revolutions and requests for representative constitutions, is a very significant observatory for the study of Italian political thought and institutional solutions tried out in the various states of the peninsula. the events of 1848 actually allow to verify if Italian subjects were fully aware of the modern and double link between representation and election or if they still preferred municipal and/or traditional constitutions. The article provides an interpretation about the unexpected choice of the liberal census model.
