Abstract
The article focuses on the first five years of the Bourbon Restoration in Southern Italy, aiming to highlight whether, and to what extent, the so-called «politica dell’amalgama», theorized – with the support of Vienna – by two authoritative restored ministers Donato Tommasi and Luigi de’ Medici, was actually implemented. The chosen viewpoint is the Calabria Ultra territory, one of the most problematic areas of the kingdom with regard to public order, subjected to an unprecedented division into two distinct provinces.
