Abstract

This essay offers a synoptic picture of some categories related to the Great War e analyzed from the European historiography in the last years: the culture of war, the «home enemy» and the violence towards the civilians. The author underlines particularly the turn introduced by the studies on the military occupations and on the role of dynamic of destruction - an example of nouvelle histoire - and shows as some themes (the treatment of civilians, people deported from the occupied regions, rapes perpetrated by soldiers, refugees in escape from the zones of war) have also assumed an enormous importance in the Italian historiography.
