Abstract
In this essay I reconstruct two of Midgley’s fundamental theses about evil: that evil is real and intrinsic to human nature, and that evil is a form of negation and privation in the individual motivational system. Especially regarding the second thesis, Midgley’s perspective is very close to Hanna Arendt’s, although it is placed in a naturalistic and Darwinian framework.
